Staten Island Half RECAP!

Happy Medal Monday! A very challenging half marathon. This was my first time running this course. The hills were what I was concerned about. Two of them bit me near the top. My other challenge (which has been off and on during the summer) was that my right foot started cramping in mile ten. It’s mostly plantar fasciitis. A present of my neuropathy. Oh well. More adjustments to be made. Marathon #1 is coming up on Sunday.

Postcards (memorial), 2004 (Masayuki Sono)

I stumbled upon this permanent memorial honoring the 274 Staten Island residents killed in the September 11 attacks of 2001 and in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing after my race. Quite stunning, so I thought.

The centerline between the two walls (postcards) points directly at Ground Zero, thereby referencing the twin towers of the World Trade Center destroyed on 9/11. The individual silhouettes all look in the same direction, toward Ground Zero.
