My first race medal of 2020. I ran the FiredUp 10k in lieu of the Hollywood Beach Half (more on that in another post). This was a fun short local race that has great medals. The race started on a stadium track that took the runners out on to a road. 5k runners completed a single loop while the 10k group were gifted with two. At the end of the loop(s) we returned to run 3/4 of the track to the finish line. The course is USATF certified, however I believe we didn’t have a true course because several of us noticed that we were short of 6.2 miles. Possible explanation was the late alteration to how we exited and reentered the stadium. Stadium officials would not approve the gate opening, thus requiring everyone to exit the stadium at a slightly earlier passageway.
Additionally, I placed third in the Masters age group award and got a second medal. The red medal is the finisher’s medal and the black one is my third place age group medal. Next race will be in friggin frigid February at New York City’s Central Park. Brrr!
